69.s. Matthew 28:20

Matthew 28:20  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

1 John 3:19-24     By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him;

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are often reminded through scripture that we are “pilgrims”—travelers journeying through a world that is not our ultimate home. In our day-to-day lives, it can seem that righteousness is scarce and hostility surrounds us. These circumstances can give rise to feelings of isolation, tempting us to believe that we are sojourning alone. Yet these feelings are fleeting, mere whispers that betray the eternal truth: Christ is always with us, never leaving nor forsaking us.

Throughout scripture, Jesus reassures His people of His abiding presence. He promised, “I will be with you to the end of the age,” a declaration that holds profound comfort for every believer. While the world may feel hostile and the journey lonely, we are never truly alone. The assurance of Christ’s companionship carries us through the darkest valleys and the most trying circumstances, offering hope and strength each day.

It is natural for Christians to ache for the heavenly abode described in scripture—the kingdom whose builder and maker is God. Our hearts yearn for the place of perfect righteousness, peace, and joy, where we will dwell with Jesus for eternity. The promise of an endless age with Christ, where God’s righteousness reigns, inspires hope and anticipation in our souls. Though we are not there yet, our longing keeps us focused on the ultimate destination.

Despite not belonging to this world, we remain here by the will of the Lord. This present assignment is purposeful: each believer is called to be faithful, to stand for what is good, righteous, and true. Our time here is not aimless; it is an opportunity to live out our faith, to be spent for the things of God and His kingdom. We are called to persevere, not losing heart in the face of adversity, but trusting that our labor in the Lord is never in vain.

Dear Christian brothers and sisters, let us encourage one another as fellow pilgrims. Our destination is sure, and the One who carries us is faithful. One day, we will hear those cherished words, “Welcome, thou good and faithful servant.” Until then, let us continue to trust Jesus to carry us through every trial and triumph, remaining steadfast in hope and diligent in the work He has set before us.

Living as God’s people in a hostile world is challenging, but we are never without hope or purpose. The presence of Jesus sustains us, our longing for heaven anchors us, and our faithful obedience prepares us for the day when we will enter His glorious kingdom. May we press on with assurance, knowing our Savior walks with us today, tomorrow, and for all eternity. (Hibbs)

I like the encouraging words of Jack Hibbs.

However, when I read them I caution myself against thinking I am fully faithful, obedient, trusting, following, reliant:

Do I seek and desire to hear the quiet whispers of the Holy Spirit every moment of my day?

Do I cherish time in His Word?

Do I have a heart that wants to be corrected?

Do I have love towards all people?

Do I allow time and things of this world to occupy my time?

Do I speak with boldness when prompted by the Holy Spirit?

Am I kind, generous, patient, joyful, thankful, repentant, forgiving?

Do I encourage others?

Do I look for things of God throughout my day?

Do I give my best effort to God?

Do I live out my faith in such a way that Jesus is honored and glorified, even when no one is looking?
