God is worthy to receive, honor, glory, worship, and praise.
Glory – take great pleasure in, exult in, rejoice in, delight in, revel in; relish, savor, honor, worship, reverence, exalt, thanks, recognition, adore, praise, acclaim, preeminence……
Honor – hold in great respect, hold in high esteem, have a high regard for, esteem, respect, admire, defer to, look up to, think highly of; appreciate, value, prize, cherish, respect, esteemed……
Worship – revere, reverence, venerate, pay homage to, honor, adore, praise, pray to, bow down before, glorify, exalt, extol; be devoted to, dote on, love, hold dear, cherish, treasure, admire, esteem, have a high regard for, hold in high regard, hold in esteem, hold in awe, look up to…….
Praise – worship, glorify, honor, exalt, adore, pay tribute to, give thanks to, reverence, magnify, admiration, acclamation, reverence, respect, worship, idolize, hold sacred, exalt, honor, esteem, look up to, think highly of, pay tribute to; adore, praise, extol, hold in awe, stand in awe of, marvel at, value…….
The more we grow in His Word we will understand why God is worthy of honor and glory, and we will worship and praise Him for He is worthy.
What does this look like in our daily lives? Is it singing worship songs at church – yes, bur so much more. It is more of a state of being in worship and praise than doing. It is having our hearts and minds continually in awe and aware of His ever-presence. I
t is hard to be in His presence when our hearts and minds are void of His Word. It is hard to be in His presence when our hearts and minds are focused on worldly busyness. What is it that distracts your hearts and minds. Work, family issues, social media, TV shows and movies, news outlets, school, college, and professional sports all seem to distract and pull us away from giving honor and glory and praise to God. A full day can go by without a single thought of praise or worship. Oh, let there be an accident, trial, trouble, sickness, financial burden, broken relationship, death, etc…. and we come running.
Does this seem shallow to you, it should. The God of creation, who made everything from the galaxies and all that is in them down to the smallest electron attached to an atom, who reached out to His creation, who is holy. who is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present. Who spoke creation into being by His Word. Who sent His Son to redeem us from our sins and give us eternal life with Him. Who comes to us full of grace, mercy, and love. Who sent the Holy Spirit to indwell in us. Who gives us hope, love, faith, peace, joy…… Who will judge the world. Who gives blessings. Who inspired His Written Word. Who has plans and purposes beyond our understanding. Who can heal. Who knows every thought and action. Who knows the cattle on a thousand hills and the hairs on every head.
With these thoughts in mind, how can we not but praise, worship, honor, and glorify Him? He is worthy. How can we allow the busyness of life to distract us? He is worthy. How can we neglect His Word? How can we be in such darkness that we don’t see His worthiness of honor and glory? How can we be so deaf that we cannot hear all of creation proclaiming honor and glory to Him?
It is through His Word that we grow in our understanding and knowledge of His glory, honor, grace, mercy, and love. neglecting His Word leaves us void of this understanding and knowledge. There are many things in this world to distract us but it comes down to an intentional choice to be in His Word or to be consumed by worldly things and pursuits.
Oh, that God would reveal our neglect and complacency and open our eyes to more and more understanding and knowledge of His grace, mercy, and love as we spend time in His Word and seek to be in His presence always.
“[God] loves to be consulted. Therefore, take all thy difficulties to be resolved by him. Be in the habit of going to him in the first place—before self-will, self-pleasing, self-wisdom, human friends, convenience, expediency.”
