10.w. “Your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”

Micah 3:4  Then they will cry to the Lord, but he will not answer them; he will hide his face from them at that time, because they have made their deeds evil. Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who cry “Peace” when they have something to eat, but declare war against him who puts nothing into their mouths. Therefore it shall be night to you, without vision, and darkness to you, without divination. The sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them; the seers shall be disgraced, and the diviners put to shame; they shall all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God.

Deuteronomy 31:17-18    Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?’  And I will surely hide my face in that day because of all the evil that they have done, because they have turned to other gods.

Deuteronomy 32:19-20   “The LORD saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.  And he said, ‘I will hide my face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.

Isaiah 59:1-15    Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear;  but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

How sad, terrible, and overwhelming to have God hide His face from His people?  How big is the separation when there is no answer from God?  When there is sin in our lives and in our nations and we have known what it means to seek and follower after God but have willfully chosen paths away from Him can we expect and answer from Him?  The answer to this is yes and no.  When we come to our senses like the prodigal son He is there with expectant arms wide open.  It is in the time between our unfaithfulness and willing disobedience, and a drought of God’s Word in our life when we will find that it is not so much Him speaking into our lives but rather we are not listening.  The worst part of this is that we choose to not listen and then wonder why, when troubles find their way into our lives, God does not seem to be anywhere near us.  God orchestrates and/or allows troubles to come on individuals and nations.   He has used these times to draw them back to Him, recognizes their sin, repents, and turns away from that which was appalling to obedience to Him.  As a nation, we find ourselves in a time now that prudent minds would seek God with a humble heart.  But this isn’t what we do, is it?   We look to local, state, and federal governments to answer our questions and fix the troubles we are facing.  Could it be that God is taking away (hopefully temporarily) that which we hold so dear in this world?  I do know this unless we turn to Him with humbleness and repentant hearts our nation will go from worse to worse.  Seek Him, dive deep into His Word, and open the ears to your hearts, minds, and souls.

150. Within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.

1 Kings 14:21   Now Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite. And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. For they also built for themselves high places and pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, and there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations that the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.

Ezekiel 16:47-48     Not only did you walk in their ways and do according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.

Romans 1:24-27    Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,  because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever!

Deuteronomy 32:18-21  You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you, and you forgot the God who gave you birth.  “The LORD saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.  And he said, ‘I will hide my face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.  They have made me jealous with what is no god; they have provoked me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are no people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

Do you ever wonder how people get so far away from God that they replace serving, honoring, following, and obeying Him with something else?  It is not as though God changed who He was or His steadfast love and holiness changed.  God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  What changes in the lives of people that they no longer have a heart, mind, and soul for the one and only true God.  I have an idea it was a slow decline over time.  They allowed the very evil and wayward thinking of the people God drove out before them to find it’s wake back.   It is not as though they woke one day and said: “I am going to do this really stupid thing I know is wrong against God”.  No, it was more like a slow steady decline and turning of their heart and mind away from God and His word.  They spent less and less time thinking about Him and more and more about themselves. They spent more time listening to those who have no heart for God than time in God’s word.

Acceptance of false teaching and sinful living is the beginning of the fall.  Some may think since it is just the beginning of the fall it is not that bad.  If you jump off of a cliff there is really no difference in the ending from the beginning.  The outcome is the same, it is just the little bit of time between.  It is not as though you can grab onto anything while you are in midair on a free fall.  Such are the lives of many who spend little to no time in God’s word and their heart and mind are listening to that which does not serve, honor, or glorify God.  It is a slow heating of the water and nothing aware of how hot it is getting before you are dead.

There is no one holding you back from serving, honoring, glorifying, following, and obeying God but you.  You choose each day.

Food for living

“And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!”

“And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you?”

“And the LORD said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them?”

“And he said, ‘I will hide my face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.”

John 13:36  Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow afterward.”

John 14:4   And you know the way to where I am going.”  Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

John 16:17     So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?”

John 20:25     So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”  Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”  Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

Hebrews 5:11     About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.  For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,

Having a store house of food and starving to death doesn’t make much sense.   All a person would have to do is go to the store house and eat to live.  How long can the body go without food?  Having the food in our possession does us no good if we do not use it for sustaining our life.  We can tell ourselves that we are fine not eating but slowly we are dying.  God’s word is food for our soul that gives us hope, faith, love, purpose, strength, courage, and peace.  God has given us this store house of spiritual food to know Him, to grow in this understanding, and to have a light to our path this side of eternity.  Read His word, meditate on it, and obey His leading for your life.
