Exodus 19:1 \u00a0 <\/span>On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped before the mountain, while Moses went up to God. The Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, \u201cThus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.\u2019 These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.<\/p>\n

Exodus 23:22<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0\u201cBut if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.<\/p>\n

Exodus 24:7<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, \u201cAll that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deuteronomy 28:1<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0\u201cAnd if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.<\/p>\n

Joshua 24:24<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0And the people said to Joshua, \u201cThe LORD our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.\u201d<\/p>\n

1 Samuel 15:22<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0And Samuel said, \u201cHas the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

How many times do we try to do good as a means to gain or earn God\u2019s favor?\u00a0 <\/span>Doing something with the hope or expectation of a reward for good behavior is much different than doing it as an honor to the person without expectation.\u00a0 <\/span>Note the words in Samuel; \u201cHas the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.\u201d<\/p>\n

Listening and obeying are signs of a life honoring God.\u00a0 <\/span>We can do all the good we want to do but if it is not for the honor and worship of God it is in vain.<\/p>\n

How is a person to listen and obey if they are not in His word, or not intentionally choosing to listen and be guided by God.\u00a0 <\/span>Performance is different from humble service.\u00a0 <\/span>Stay in His word each day with the expectation of knowing more, understanding more, and learning more of Him and His ways, love, promises, and purposes for your life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
