Exodus 17:1 \u00a0 <\/span>All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, \u201cGive us water to drink.\u201d And Moses said to them, \u201cWhy do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?\u201d But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, \u201cWhy did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?\u201d So Moses cried to the Lord, \u201cWhat shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.\u201d And the Lord said to Moses, \u201cPass on before the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel, and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.\u201d And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the Lord by saying, \u201cIs the Lord among us or not?\u201d<\/p>\n

Psalms 95:8<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,<\/p>\n

Hebrews 3:8-9<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,\u00a0\u00a0where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years.<\/p>\n

Exodus 34:9<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0And he said, \u201cIf now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us, for it is a stiff-necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deuteronomy 31:17<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, \u2018Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?\u2019<\/p>\n

Acts 7:37-39<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, \u2018God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. He received living oracles to give to us.\u00a0\u00a0Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cIs the Lord among us or not?\u201d \u201cOur fathers refused to obey Him, but thrust Him aside, and in their hearts, they turned to Egypt.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>The grumbling and doubting seem to be a pattern.\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u2019t think it is any different now than it was back then.\u00a0 <\/span>Desiring, seeking, relying on, clinging to, and trusting in God is rejected at the heart, mind, and soul level.\u00a0 <\/span>We are not immune to this type of thinking, however, we can take these thoughts captive and cast them out as soon as they pop into our head.\u00a0 We can choose not to thrust Him aside.\u00a0 We can choose not to live like He does not exist.<\/p>\n

How are we to do this?\u00a0 <\/span>We need to keep God\u2019s word in our heart and mind.\u00a0 <\/span>We need to intentionally change our ways according to His word and how the Holy Spirit leads us.\u00a0 <\/span>We need to change our way of thinking about self first and desire to do whatever it is He has planned for us.\u00a0 <\/span>We need to change from the way we live for self and change to living for God, seeking Him, wanting to honor and obey Him.<\/p>\n

Commit to reading His word each day.\u00a0 <\/span>Listen to what His word says to your heart and mind.\u00a0 <\/span>Talk to God often. Walk in faith, trusting Him and His precious promises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
