{"id":40959,"date":"2018-06-01T04:00:20","date_gmt":"2018-06-01T11:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/prayingpint.com\/?p=40959"},"modified":"2018-06-01T04:00:20","modified_gmt":"2018-06-01T11:00:20","slug":"your-promise-gives-me-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prayingpint.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/01\/your-promise-gives-me-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Your promise gives me life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"verseid:19.119.49\"><b>Psalms 119:49<\/b>\u00a0<\/a><\/span>\u00a0Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope. \u00a0This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life. \u00a0The insolent utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from your law. \u00a0When I think of your rules from of old, I take comfort, O LORD. \u00a0Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law. \u00a0Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning. \u00a0I remember your name in the night, O LORD, and keep your law. \u00a0This blessing has fallen to me, that I have kept your precepts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em>The Psalmist understood that God could never forget His word. Speaking in the manner of men, this was a plea for God to fulfill the promises stated in His word. God wants His people to plead His stated promises back to Him in prayer.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThis is, as Augustine said of his mother, \u2018bringing before God his own hand-writing.\u2019 Will he not remember his word?\u201d (Bridges) \u201cWhen we hear any promise in the word of God, let us turn it into a prayer. Spurgeon said that he often carried with him a small book of God\u2019s promises (\u201cClarke\u2019s Precious Promises\u201d) \u201cIf God\u2019s word to us as his servants is so precious, what shall we say of his word to us as his sons?\u201d (Spurgeon)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Psalmist understood that his trust and hope in God\u2019s word should not be credited to his own spiritual greatness or genius. It came because God worked in him to hope in His word. The word of God is <i>worthy<\/i> of such hope. When recalled how faithfully and powerfully God\u2019s word had brought him life in the past, he found comfort in his present affliction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em>There is no specific prayer for help. Instead, there are \u201cstatements by the writer that he trusts what God has written in his law and will continue to love it and obey its teachings. It is a way of acknowledging that suffering is common to human beings.\u201d (Boice)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em>All should remember that the word of God gives life, hope, comfort There was specific comfort in remembering Your judgments of old, O Lord.
