Genesis 12:1-3\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cThe Lord had said to Abram, \u2018Go from your country, your people and your father\u2019s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
1 Samuel 16:1\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u201cThe Lord said to Samuel, \u2018How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
Act 9:3-6<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, \u201cSaul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0And he said, \u201cWho are you, Lord?\u201d And he said, \u201cI am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Just as those who lived in the past had the privilege of being God’s people of faith then, so do we in our own day! It is good to come to the understanding that while God wants us to be holy and Spirit-filled, He does not expect us to look like Abraham or to play the harp like David or to have the same spiritual insights given to Paul. All of the former heroes of the faith are dead. You are alive in your generation. A Bible proverb says that it is better to be a living dog than a dead lion. You may wish to be Abraham or Isaac or Jacob, but remember they have been asleep for centuries, and you are still around! You can witness for our Lord today! You can still pray! You can still give of your substance to help those who are in need! In this, your own generation, give God all your love, all your devotion.
