1Corinthians 8:7-13<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.\u00a0Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.\u00a0But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.\u00a0For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols?\u00a0And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.\u00a0Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.\u00a0Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.<\/p>\n 1Timothy 4:1-2<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,\u00a0through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Scripture warns of the dangers of both a weak and a seared conscience. A \u201cweak\u201d conscience is one that is overly scrupulous, easily offended, or burdened by unnecessary guilt (1 Corinthians 8:7-13). Paul urges mature believers to act with love and sensitivity toward those with weaker consciences, avoiding actions that might cause them to stumble. Conversely, a \u201cseared\u201d conscience is one that has become calloused and insensitive through persistent sin or neglect of God\u2019s voice (1 Timothy 4:2). Such a conscience no longer responds to moral conviction, making repentance and spiritual renewal increasingly difficult.
