\u00a0Philippians 4:6\u20137<\/a>, \u00a0\u00a0Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.<\/p>\n

Matthew 6:25-33<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u201cTherefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?\u00a0\u00a0Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?\u00a0\u00a0And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?\u00a0\u00a0And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,\u00a0\u00a0yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.\u00a0\u00a0But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?\u00a0\u00a0Therefore do not be anxious, saying, \u2018What shall we eat?\u2019 or \u2018What shall we drink?\u2019 or \u2018What shall we wear?\u2019 \u00a0For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.\u00a0But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.<\/p>\n

Matthew 10:19<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.<\/h2>\n

Luke 10:41<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0But the Lord answered her,\u00a0\u201cMartha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,<\/h2>\n

1 Peter 5:7<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Can a mere human like me really rejoice in God while battling anxiety? Or do I have to wait for the dust to settle on my circumstances before trying to uncover joy again?<\/p>\n

When you lie in your bed at night, with all your hopes and hurts and unknowns, what worries wage war on your heart and rob you of joy? Could it be possible \u2014 truly, unexpectedly possible \u2014 to rejoice in God while battling the fears that sometimes plague you and me?<\/p>\n

Not About Anything?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As I think back on the anxieties that have crept onto my pillow, even just over the last couple of years \u2014 health trouble, house trouble, work trouble, financial trouble, family trouble, and more \u2014 they\u2019re not happy moments for me. They\u2019re difficult moments, painful moments, can\u2019t-this-just-be-over moments. I don\u2019t associate them with rejoicing, at least not at first.<\/p>\n

When I remember going to war with those worries, though, I think almost immediately of two verses that have been a sword and shield on my battlefield.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a startling command and promise: Don\u2019t be anxious\u00a0about anything<\/em>. Depend on God through prayer, and you\u2019ll experience the peace of God\u00a0in everything<\/em>. That\u2019s not exaggeration or naivete; that\u2019s a God-wrought, God-breathed promise. Put your particular fear into the verse \u2014 \u201cDo not be anxious about [blank]\u201d \u2014 and it wouldn\u2019t change what Paul said.<\/p>\n

When the apostle says \u201canything,\u201d he means\u00a0anything<\/em>. For those who know and love Christ, there is nothing in your health, your house, your life that God can\u2019t cover with real heartfelt peace. But not only peace. (Segal)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
