Hebrews 2:1\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><a href=\"verseid:58.2.1\"><strong>Hebrews 2:1<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first thing I want to say to Haley, and all of us who have tasted the frightening seasons of spiritual dullness and fear of drifting into a kind of cold indifference, which would not only make us useless, but would ruin our souls \u2014 the first thing I want to say is this: Be thankful. Oh, be so thankful you are aware of what is happening.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the first great discovery, which leads us back to the sweetness and authenticity of walking in fellowship with Jesus. And I say that because, when Paul tells us not to be anxious for anything, not to fear, he doesn\u2019t just say, \u201cPray about your fears.\u201d He says, \u201cPray about them with thanksgiving\u201d (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ref.ly\/Phil%204.6;esv?t=biblia\">Philippians 4:6<\/a>). So, right in the middle of our impending darkness, we are to mingle our desperation with thanksgiving. That\u2019s the first thing I would say. Be thankful, Haley, that you are not blind to what is happening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ref.ly\/Heb%202.1;esv?t=biblia\">Hebrews 2:1<\/a>\u00a0says, \u201cWe must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.\u201d I have tried to remind myself and the church I served that life is war. At the end of his life, Paul said, \u201cI have\u00a0<em>fought<\/em>\u00a0the good fight\u201d all the way to the end (<a href=\"https:\/\/ref.ly\/2%20Tim%204.7;esv?t=biblia\">2 Timothy 4:7<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Life is war. And we used to say at Bethlehem, \u201cYou do not know what prayer is for until you know that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/interviews\/why-comfortable-christians-go-prayerless\">life is war<\/a>.\u201d Prayer is not an intercom to ask the butler for another pillow in the den.
