James 4:7\u00a0 \u00a0 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.<\/p>\n
Matthew 4:3-11<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0And the tempter came and said to him, \u201cIf you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0But he answered, \u201cIt is written, \u201c\u2018Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple\u00a0\u00a0and said to him, \u201cIf you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, \u201c\u2018He will command his angels concerning you,\u2019 and \u201c\u2018On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Jesus said to him, \u201cAgain it is written, \u2018You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.\u00a0\u00a0And he said to him, \u201cAll these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Then Jesus said to him, \u201cBe gone, Satan! For it is written, \u201c\u2018You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span>Ephesians 4:27<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0and give no opportunity to the devil.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span>Ephesians 6:11-12<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0 <\/b>\u00a0\u00a0Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.\u00a0\u00a0For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span>Revelation 12:9<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
How can we have spiritual victory over demons? Let me give two suggestions from the Bible.<\/p>\n
First, be alert to Satan\u2019s attacks. A lot of Christians walk around in a spiritual stupor, not aware that they are in Satan\u2019s crosshairs. But those who are not alert to the attacks of Satan and his demons become spiritual roadkill. That\u2019s why 1 Peter 5:8 says, \u201cBe of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.\u201d Be alert to his attacks.<\/p>\n
Second, be aware of God\u2019s provision. We don\u2019t have to feel paranoid about Satan and his demons. God has made provision for us to have victory over Satan and his forces. We would love to think there is a prayer or ritual that will remove Satan\u2019s power over our lives forever. That\u2019s why many people are attracted to the idea of exorcism. However, in the Bible, the gift of exorcism is attached to Jesus and the apostles. There\u2019s no passage indicating that Christians as a whole are supposed to engage in exorcism. Any verses suggesting otherwise do not appear in the earliest manuscripts, so we would be wise not to base our actions on them.<\/p>\n
Our responsibility is not exorcising demons from other people or ourselves; it is exercising the spiritual power God has already given to us in order to resist Satan and his demons.<\/p>\n
James 4:7 says, \u201cSubmit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.\u201d Submitting your life to God and resisting the devil are related. Any area of your life that has not been submitted to God is open to Satan\u2019s influence. To neutralize demonic forces, diminish their real estate in your life. Submit to God in your moral life, your family life, your work life, and your finances. The more of your life you submit to God, the less of a foothold Satan will have.<\/p>\n
An acquaintance once told me, \u201cFor so many years of my Christian life, I was trying to live according to my plan and my agenda, and it was like swimming upstream. Everything was so hard. But then I discovered the secret of submitting to God and His will. It has not eliminated my problems, but it sure has made life easier.\u201d Submitting to God\u2019s will for your life is the only way to emerge victorious in this cosmic battle.
