By his wounds you have been healed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleportal.com\/verse-topic?v=Acts%205:30&amp;version=NIV\">Acts 5:30<\/a><\/span> <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The God of our ancestors\u00a0raised Jesus from the dead\u00a0\u2014whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleportal.com\/verse-topic?v=Acts%2010:39&amp;version=NIV\">Acts 10:39<\/a><\/span> <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe are witnesses\u00a0of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleportal.com\/verse-topic?v=Acts%2013:29&amp;version=NIV\">Acts 13:29<\/a><\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>When they had carried out all that was written about him,\u00a0they took him down from the cross\u00a0and laid him in a tomb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleportal.com\/verse-topic?v=Galatians%203:13&amp;version=NIV\">Galatians 3:13<\/a><\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law\u00a0by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: \u201cCursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"s2\">In his own body<\/span><\/span> &#8211;\u00a0This alludes undoubtedly to his sufferings. The sufferings which he endured on the cross were such as if he had been guilty; that is, he was treated as he would have been if he had been a sinner. He was treated as a criminal; crucified as those most guilty were; endured the same kind of physical pain that the guilty do who are punished for their own sins; and passed through mental sorrows strongly resembling &#8211; as much so as the case admitted of &#8211; what the guilty themselves experience when they are left to distressing anguish of mind, and are abandoned by God. The sufferings of the Saviour were in all respects made as nearly like the sufferings of the most guilty, as the sufferings of a perfectly innocent being could be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>On the tree<\/i><\/span><\/span> &#8211; The meaning is rather, as in the text, that while himself on the cross, he bore the sorrows which our sins deserved. It does not mean that he conveyed our sorrows there, but that while there he suffered under the intolerable burden, and was by that burden crushed in death.
