Num 22:35<\/b>\u00a0<\/a><\/span>\u00a0And the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, \u201cGo with the men, but speak only the word that I tell you.\u201d So Balaam went on with the princes of Balak.\u00a0When Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him at the city of Moab, on the border formed by the Arnon, at the extremity of the border.\u00a0And Balak said to Balaam, \u201cDid I not send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able to honor you?\u201d\u00a0Balaam said to Balak, \u201cBehold, I have come to you! Have I now any power of my own to speak anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that must I speak.\u201d\u00a0Then Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath-huzoth.<\/p>\n This showed how happy Balak was to have Balaam visit, so that this so-called prophet could curse Israel. Normally, rulers have people come to them. This time, Balak took the trouble to\u00a0meet<\/b>Balaam and pointed this out to him (Look, I have come to you!<\/b>). The\u00a0honor<\/b>\u00a0Balak had in mind was money. With almost his first words, Balak told Balaam what he wanted to hear \u2013 that he would be paid a lot of money to curse Israel. Balaam again warned Balak that the ability to curse Israel was not in his control. Perhaps he really believed and understood this, or perhaps this was his way of protecting himself in case he failed. Then he could say that it was God\u2019s fault, and not his. (Guzik)<\/p>\n We need to be mindful of those who would tempt us to give thought to doing what is not right in God\u2019s eyes or according to His Word, or that which we have been clearly convicted of and know it is not right. Satan has many devices at his disposal to tempt people away from doing what is right. He will use any opportunity and person and situation to tempt us to do that which is not right. He will gain a small foothold by placing a tempting thought in your mind. The problem is that we do not recognize it as a temptation – Why is that? It would be good if our mind\u2019s eye could see the temptation and cast it out.
