Genesis 40:9\u00a0 <\/span>So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, \u201cIn my dream there was a vine before me, and on the vine there were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes. Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.\u201d Then Joseph said to him, \u201cThis is its interpretation: the three branches are three days. In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office, and you shall place Pharaoh’s cup in his hand as formerly, when you were his cupbearer. Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house. For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, \u201cI also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head, and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head.\u201d And Joseph answered and said, \u201cThis is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head\u2014from you!\u2014and hang you on a tree. And the birds will eat the flesh from you.\u201d On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants and lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0God may certainly speak through dreams, and many passages of the Bible show this.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to the pagan ruler Abimelech in a dream (Genesis 20:3<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to Jacob in dreams (Genesis 28:12<\/span><\/a>,\u00a031:11<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to Laban in a dream (Genesis 31:24<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to the Midianite in a dream (Judges 7:13<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to Solomon in a dream (1 Kings 3:5<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to Nebuchadnezzar in a dream (Daniel 2:1<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to Daniel in a dream (Daniel 7:1<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to Joseph in dreams (Matthew 1:20<\/span><\/a>,\u00a02:13<\/span><\/a>,\u00a02:22<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0God spoke to Pilate\u2019s wife in a dream (Matthew 27:19<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s always important to remember that not every dream is a revelation from God. Dreams can come just because our minds are busy:\u00a0A\u00a0dream comes through much activity\u2026 For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity\u00a0(Ecclesiastes 5:3<\/span><\/a>,\u00a05:7<\/span><\/a>) Still, we should be open to ways that God might speak \u2013 even if it might be in a dream. Our message is the same:\u00a0Don\u2019t look for messages from God anywhere else than the Bible\u00a0\u2013\u00a0it is God\u2019s voice.\u00a0Yet we recognize that from time to time God will choose an unusual way to speak to us, yet never against the Bible or never even equal to the Bible. I don\u2019t know what to say about dreams.\u00a0 <\/span>I have had many meaningless dreams and only a few dreams clearly from God. I knew these dreams from God because the Holy Spirit made it clear they were. We have to realize there was no written Word of God and there was no permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit like there is now in believers since Jesus Christ\u2019s death and resurrection and in-filling at Pentecost. God will speak clearly to us through His Word and lead us to knowledge, wisdom, and understanding through the Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts and minds. It is good for us to seek God\u2019s leading and to make sense of the world we live in and the events of each day by and through His Word and the Holy Spirit\u2019s leading. Have a heart and mind ever-seeking and always ready for the quiet whispers of God speaking through His Word.\u00a0 <\/span>Searching for meaning in dreams has little benefit compared to His Word and the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
