\nMatthew 16:1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them, \u201cWhen it is evening, you say, \u2018It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.\u2019 And in the morning, \u2018It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.\u2019 You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.\u201d So he left them and departed.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span>Luke 20:23<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,<\/p>\n
Luke 12:54-56<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span>Acts 2:40<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, \u201cSave yourselves from this crooked generation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Luke 11:29-30<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, \u201cThis generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\u201cIt is an extraordinary phenomenon to find a combination of the Pharisees and Sadducees. They stood for both beliefs and policies which were diametrically opposed.\u201d (Barclay) Yet for all these differences, Jesus brought them together. Not in a good way \u2013 they came together in\u00a0opposition<\/i>\u00a0to Jesus, but they came together nonetheless.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Show us a sign was their request. They had heard of and seen the lame, deaf, mute, blind, and sick healed right before their eyes and still said, \u201cshow us a sign\u201d. \u00a0 <\/span>Asking for a sign indicates they knew who Jesus claimed himself to be and they rejected not only what He said but what they had witnessed Him doing. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Think about how God had done 8 wonders\/signs in Egypt that rescued them from slavery. Think about how He had water come from a rock, manna from the sky, and birds for meat every day. The Israelites had witnessed God\u2019s power, love, grace, and provision and yet they still did not trust Him to continue. The Bible gives repeated examples of those who saw remarkable signs, yet did not believe.<\/p>\n
In Romans, it is also clear men reject God and have no excuse for their rejection. For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.\u00a0<\/i><\/b>For<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>since<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>the creation<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>of the world<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>God\u2019s<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>invisible qualities,<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>His<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>eternal<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>power<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>and<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>divine nature,<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>have been clearly seen,<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>being understood<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>from<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>His workmanship,<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>so that<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>men<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>are<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>without excuse.<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0 For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
