Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.<\/p>\n

Proverbs 25:14<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Proverbs 26:12<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Romans 12:3<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>1 Corinthians 3:18<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>James 1:22<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>James 1:26<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Proverbs 14:14<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways, and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As much as anything, pride is\u00a0self-focus<\/i>. Pride doesn\u2019t necessarily say, \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0better<\/i>\u00a0than you are.\u201d Pride simply says, \u201cI\u2019m more\u00a0important<\/i>\u00a0than you are, so I deserve more of my own attention and love than you do.\u201d It also stifles ministry in another way. Out of pride, people will refuse to\u00a0receive<\/i>\u00a0help when someone else reaches out to help bear their burden. Instead, Biblical humility tells us, \u201cI am no more important than you are. Let me care about your burdens and needs.\u201d Or to say, \u201cI need help\u201d. It is important to understand that Paul wrote to\u00a0every Christian<\/i>\u00a0when he said, \u201cWhen he is nothing<\/b>.\u201d In the sense Paul uses the idea here, it isn\u2019t that some Christians are\u00a0something<\/b>, and others are\u00a0nothing<\/b>, and the problem is that the\u00a0nothings<\/i>\u00a0think they are one of the\u00a0somethings<\/i>. Instead, Paul writes with the same idea behind\u00a0Philippians 2:3b-4<\/span><\/a>:\u00a0In lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others<\/i>. If I esteem you above me, and you esteem me above you, a marvelous thing happens: we have a community where everyone is looked up to, and no one is looked down on. (Guzik)<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meaning is more general and should therefore be expressed thus, \u2018Since all men are nothing, he who wishes to appear something and persuades himself that he is somebody, deceives himself.\u2019\u201d (Calvin)<\/p>\n

There are few things more self-deceptive than\u00a0pride<\/i>. To be proud is to be blind \u2013 blind to the freely given favor and gifts of God, blind to our sin and depravity, blind to the good in others, and blind to the foolishness of self-centeredness.<\/p>\n

We often get angry when someone deceives us. Yet we don\u2019t take the danger of deceiving ourselves as seriously as we should. It is a serious and terrible thing to deceive yourself. \u201cThe misery of most men is, that their minds are as ill set as their eyes, neither of them look inwards.\u201d (Trapp)<\/p>\n

Instead of deceiving ourselves, we must take a careful and sober examination of our lives (what we say, think, and do, where and what we spend our time on, am I seeking and desiring to honor and glorify Jesus Christ.) The Bible speaks of a day when our works will be examined before the Lord. Strive to have your works reveal humble humility, obedience, reliance, faith, and trust in Jesus Christ and in love, bearing the burdens on to another.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
